01 · Ridge House
A wall thick enough to forget the weather.
Rammed earth, 600 mm, dug from the plot itself. The house is one room deep, so every space has two sides and can be aired in a minute.

Architecture & interiors · Est. 2011
A small studio working in earth, lime and timber. Few materials, patient detailing, and houses that hold the heat out and the calm in.

Approach
We start with the sun. Where it lands in January, where it burns in July, and how thick a wall has to be to forget about it. Everything after that — the plan, the openings, the surfaces — follows from keeping a room comfortable without switching anything on.
Selected work
A long rammed-earth bar set into the slope, shaded by its own overhang. Three courtyards cut into the plan move air through the house without a fan.
A riad reworked around its water. Lime plaster inside and out, cedar screens, and a stair that turns twice so no room faces west.
An agricultural shed kept, patched and given a thick inner lining. The old walls stay rough; everything new is one shade of clay.
A house for two generations, split by a shaded terrace that both halves open onto. Brick vaults keep the bedrooms cool until evening.
A painter's workroom facing north, buried to the sill on its windward side so the dune does the insulating.
Our first build: a stone store turned guesthouse, with one new opening and nothing else added that you can see.

02 · Lime Courtyard
The basin was already there, cracked and dry. We rebuilt it, then arranged everything else so each room can hear it.
03 · Salt Barn
A building this old has already solved most of it. Our work was a lining, a floor and a single window cut where the morning comes in.

How we work
01
We walk the plot from morning to dusk before drawing anything, and write down where the shade falls.
02
A single plan and one section, at a scale you can read. If it needs more paper than that, it isn't simple enough yet.
03
Earth, plaster and timber panels made on site and left out in the weather for a month.
04
We stay with local trades from first pour to last coat, on site every week until it's done.
The studio
Eleven people, one workshop, and a rule we've kept since the first house: if we can't build a sample of it, we don't draw it.
Enquiries
We take on four projects a year. Send the plot, the climate and roughly when you'd like to start; we answer every enquiry within a week.
We read every enquiry ourselves and reply within a week, even when we're full.
